Ripped photographs, reclaimed wood & MDF frame, vinyl lettering, light
Ambient Occlusion is a sculptural photography and text work, comprised of multiple photography built up and ripped through to expose layers of time. The layered imagery is selected from a collection of photographs taken by the artist over a period of time, across various locations traversed alone with her camera and often revisited. The freestanding photographic object is accompanied by a poem set on the wall with a focused light chamber. Ambient Occlusion stems from ongoing research focusing on photography’s connection with materiality and time.
The project was in response to its location, the work is geographically anchored to the site and developed between her studio and in residence at the gallery. Supported by the Photography Research Group at the University of Brighton, 2024.
